"2:10 Train " (on Rebel) is the debut release from Jimmy Gaudreau and Moondi Klein (alumni of the acoustic group Chesapeake).

The album is just the two of them; Gaudreau plays mandolin and sings high harmony and Klein sings tenor lead and plays guitar. Klein is native New Yorker, he grew up in Manhattan and was a member of the Metropoliatan Oprea's Children Chorus. Now, he's closer to the Grand Ole Opry than grand opera.

Those who don't like the nasal sound of most bluegrass singers won't have any problem with the duo. Vocally and instrumentally, Gaudreau and Klein achiefe perfedtion in a program that crosses over from folk to bluegrass to swing. They sing effectively about love and loss __ the title song is about a visit to prison. The most affecting song, though, is Bogle's "And the Band Played 'Waltzing Matilda,'" a powerful song about the devastion of war. They perform a gentle version of folk song writer Tom Paxton's "The last Thing on My Mind" and seque into swong with "Any Old Time" and "Evening" (by Mitchell Parrish and Harry White). altered a bit from the version blues great Jimmy Rushing used to sing. They are just as satisfying when they just pick a tune on their mandolin and guitar.

On June 18 and 19, Jimmy Gaudreau and Moondi Klein will be the opening act for Emmylow Harris at Town Hall. That's a double bill worth catching.
